Little Dirty Pretty Thangs

I feel like writing about Mammy today. I’ve actually felt like writing about her for a while. A thought popped into my head out of the blue some time last week:

“Ain’t nothin’ wrong with Mammy. Nothing at all wrong with being nurturing, loving, giving and a queen of domesticity. What was/is wrong is how Whiteness stole, appropriated and perverted Mammy to suit its needs to the detriment of her own family.”

I’m thinking about Mammy in the terms of professional domesticity, Black Motherhood, value, Black Love relationships/sexuality, family and self-hatred.

Yes, I am thinking about Mammy.
